As of today, the course conditions are Wild West Gravel. With most of the course completely unmaintained over the winter, the surface is by turns deeply rutted, chunky, rocky, steep, loose, fast, smooth, and dusty. Be prepared for rugged roads - and for variable weather including rain. This is Wild Horse Gravel.
Getting Here
Your home base for the weekend is The High Lonesome Ranch.
As you arrive, you will be directed to short-term parking at The High Lonesome Ranch rodeo grounds for packet pick-up. From there, long-term parking will depend on where you are staying. Cabin dwellers will park next to their building; campers will park in a field adjacent to the camping area. We'll direct you at check-in.
On Friday, May 14, registration and packet pick-up will take place directly across the road from the rodeo grounds in an old school house. Here you will receive your ride credentials, including number plate, rider bib (with meal tags), commemorative gift and course map. If you pre-ordered merchandise, then you'll get that, too. Hours are 5 - 9 p.m.
If arriving early on Saturday, May 15, please park in the rodeo grounds and then ride over to the main ranch house to get your reg packet. Hours are 6 - 8 a.m.
Route Options
Choose between 45 and 71 miles - even mid-ride. See the interactive routes and GPX files on our RideWithGPS page. Please stay on course and respect the land, vegetation and wildlife around us. Route briefing: Friday 8:30 p.m. Please note - in order to do the 71 mile course, you need to be at Aid Station #2 in the Town of De Beque no later than 11 a.m.
Timed Segments
Miles 5-11.8 (The Valley & The Goblins) and miles 45-59.5 (The Long Grind) will be timed. Race the segments or ignore them completely; it's just for fun. The three lowest cumulative times for females and males will win prizes.
Support on Course
In the spirit of gravel riding, support will be limited. Expect water at mile 12/60, and full feed stations at mile 18.5, 35 and 52 that include restrooms and tech support, courtesy of Trek Montrose (see map for detail). Please be prepared to take care of your body and your bicycle, whatever the weather.
Showers + Pool at HLR
The High Lonesome Ranch has two indoors showers and a few sun-showers available for campers to use. Just bring your own towel and supplies - and a swimsuit for the swimming pool!
Feasting at the Ranch
Saturday's breakfast and post-ride BBQ are included with your registration. Be Crepeful will be selling food Friday evening, Saturday late morning / early afternoon and Sunday morning (see menu).
Fun Stuff All Weekend
Good times are on tap, starting with live music by Hugh Phillips on Friday. The evening will also feature special guests with a presentation on Regenerative Ranching and a Q&A with privateering and pioneering gravel pro, Peter Stetina. Post-ride, we will have more live music by Sir Kempson, a bike expo and beer garden. HLR staff will lead fly casting and stationary steer roping or you can just relax by the fire.

Packing Suggestions
Bring it all! Seriously, pack ride clothing for all weather conditions including rain, then decide in the morning what to wear and carry. If you are camping, bring plenty of layers. It gets cold in the high valley.
